Bright Side Baptist Church
On a tight urban site, one vertically-designed building functions as two facilities: the sacred sanctuary space (seating over 900) is both joined and separated from the community center. The Opportunities Center shares a gymnasium, banquet/stage area and classrooms with the church and provides the community with a fitness center, an out-patient medical office suite, banking facilities, a youth computer center, day-care, and adult education. The unified structure (59,400 sf) provides both spiritual growth and educational/fitness benefits to the surrounding neighborhood.
Referencing the “bright side of life” scripture, the south-facing “largest window in the city of Lancaster” reveals the hidden silhouette of a large cross when lit inside at night.
Awarded four National Solomon Awards for design including: Most Innovative Church Facility, Best Overall Building Project, Best Church Design New Construction, and Best Special Project.
The people at Beers & Hoffman are easy to work with and are definitely one of their greatest strengths. Scott Shonk has the patience of Job. As many of our interior design committee meetings would involve much discussion, Scott would listen patiently and offer suggestions.
