Calvary Church
Lancaster, PA
Calvary Church‘s new facility permitted the growing congregation to join their multiple services into one worship service by providing a 2,600 seat sanctuary. While growth has now led again to multiple services, the church impacts both its local community and world ministries.
While the 198,800 sf size of this facility could have been overwhelming, the massing and individual components such as “steeple” towers and the chapel control this scale. In fact, the 350-seat chapel gracefully demonstrates the image/sign of a “church” to the adjacent state highway.
A wonderful surprise of a well-landscaped outdoor courtyard with water features is bordered by a 1,000 seat fellowship hall (600 dining), restaurant-quality kitchen, bridal rooms, classrooms, the preschool, and a family life center/gym. The sanctuary is encircled by the music suite, the narthex/welcome center, the nursery, and administrative offices.
Testimonial
“Some church architects have made a name for themselves by designing the most unique forms ever seen. Calvary voted for Bob Beers, who was more interested in designing forms that met the needs of the 70 church leaders who defined our functions. Beers designed more churches than anyone we interviewed. He understood our needs for worship, music, education, administration and missions.”
Paul R. Hollinger, Chairman, Facilities Relocation Committee, Calvary Church
