Bright Side Baptist Church
Lancaster, PA
Bright Side Baptist Church sits on a tight urban site. One vertically-designed building functions as two facilities the sacred sanctuary space (seating over 900) is both joined and separated from the community center. The Opportunities Center shares a gymnasium, banquet/stage area and classrooms with the church and provides the community with a fitness center, an out-patient medical office suite, banking facilities, a youth computer center, day-care, and adult education. The unified structure (59,400 sf) provides both spiritual growth and educational/fitness benefits to the surrounding neighborhood.
Referencing the “bright side of life” scripture, the south-facing “largest window in the city of Lancaster” reveals the hidden silhouette of a large cross when lit inside at night.
