A Demonstration of Faith
Amid the pandemic lockdown, in a demonstration of faith and commitment to their congregation, the leadership team at Marlton Assembly of God engaged our team to complete their vision for a new addition.
Working from our previously designed sketches and studies, we understood the structural limitations of the existing building and the original addition was not allowing for the desired result. Our engineering team finalized the concept for the “super truss.” Spanning 112’ and bearing on two 7’-4” wide by 32’ tall, trussed columns at each end, the 11’ deep girder truss supports the existing PEMB roof framing and original addition girder trusses at four hanging points.
The resulting clear span allowed for the expansion of the sanctuary seating area through the use of tiered stadium style seating. With additional modifications to the existing seating area, an additional 240 seats for a total of 860 seats within the sanctuary was achieved.
A series of exterior and interior perspectives were generated to gain congregational support and financial commitment. Drawing on the aesthetics of the adjacent Marlton Field House, the exterior appearance and interior open and exposed structure were proposed to help to unify the overall campus feel.
Following demolition of the existing narthex and gathering area, the installation of the super truss to open and expand the rear of the existing sanctuary, this addition will include a large open Narthex Gathering Space with Café and Lounge areas, highlighted by a large feature wall marking entry to the sanctuary.
Large multi-user restrooms are conveniently located adjacent to the main entry and a renovated family assist restroom and coffee prep area have been provided. The Marlton Academy also benefits from the expansion with an improved Kiosk Check-in, four additional classrooms surrounding a youth Gathering space, renovated nursery area, a new administrative office and dedicated multi-user restrooms located within a secure wing. Recently interior finishes were presented to the leadership team and were met with overwhelming approval. The project is currently in for permit review and final pricing. A spring 2021 construction start is anticipated.
