Holy Apostles Orthodox Church
Mechanicsburg, PA
Founded in June 2004 as a mission parish, Holy Apostles Orthodox Church was worshipping in a rented office suite space serving as a semi-permanent chapel when our firm first met them. The church had just purchased 13-plus acre site in a lovely rural setting, as a vision was being cast for their future.
A master plan was developed that incorporated a cemetery and space for growth. In fact, an area for a future larger chapel space as a second phase is planned to connect to the initial construction.
The new 7,400 s.f. home for Holy Apostles includes a nave for 150 congregants, an altar area beyond the iconostas, a lobby area that can be used for fellowship events, four classrooms, space for a future kitchen, and a set of restrooms.
The detailing of arches in the stonework, rounded windows, and the classic onion-shaped dome give architectural connections to the Orthodox heritage.
