Saint John Chrysostom Antiochian Orthodox Church
York, PA
Saint John Chrysostom Antiochian Orthodox Church takes the ancient form of a basilica with a center dome and side apses creates the historical cross plan which enhances the time-honored acoustics essential for speech, singing and chanting in a traditional orthodox service. The front altar apse is positioned directly towards the east as the church tradition requires, and the “golden” dome is visible above the trees throughout the community as the building crowns the top of a hill to the north of the city.
Economic material selections permitted this addition (9,700 sf) to stay on budget while also providing a new narthex, accessible toilet rooms, and a classroom wing. And, master planning allows for another expansion of educational space to occur with the future generation.
