South Londonderry Township
Faced with deteriorating mechanical systems and prohibitive accessibility challenges in their existing building, South Londonderry Township’s administration determined that construction of a new Township office and police department on a parcel of land adjacent to a nearby existing public works garage was the most feasible solution. Challenges included placing approximately 12,000 SF of new construction within the context of the site, while maintaining efficient vehicular circulation and screening the somewhat unsightly maintenance garage attached to the new building.
The design team was able to devise a solution that shielded the maintenance garage from the street view, while housing all of the desired program components within the new construction, and maintaining an adequate area for parking and vehicular circulation.
Aesthetically, the characteristics of the original building were echoed through the implementation of split-faced masonry and brick materials, providing an overall appearance that expressed the building’s durable, yet modest construction.
